PETG HF for functional parts — custom 3D printing
PETG HF is the workhorse material we reach for whenever a part has to bend, hold weight, sit near heat, or get used every day. Brackets, kitchen helpers, mechanical components, replacement parts, tool holders — printed on a Bambu Lab P2S in Slovenia, with an instant quote and €4 minimum per item.
Material: PETG HF White · ~2× tougher than PLA · Heat-stable to ~75°C · Dishwasher-tolerant with care
Most "decorative" 3D printing works fine in PLA. The moment a part actually has to do a job — clip onto something, hold a tool, get gripped daily, sit on a sunny windowsill, survive the kitchen — PLA stops being a serious choice. PETG HF (high-flow polyethylene terephthalate glycol) is the material we recommend for that whole category, and it is what most of our recurring customers in Slovenia order for replacement parts and home upgrades.
PETG HF prints almost as easily as PLA on our Bambu Lab P2S, with very strong layer adhesion. That layer adhesion is the part that matters: a printed bracket only fails when the layers split, and PETG layers do not split nearly as easily as PLA layers. Combined with its higher heat resistance, that is what makes the same shape, printed in PETG instead of PLA, last years instead of months.
Technical properties
- Density: ~1.27 g/cm³ — slightly heavier than PLA, gives parts a more "solid" feel in hand.
- Print temperature: Nozzle 240–260°C, bed 70–80°C. Stable on the P2S without an enclosure.
- Strength & toughness: ~50 MPa tensile, very high impact resistance, will flex visibly before snapping — exactly what a load-bearing part should do.
- Specifics: Low water absorption, light chemical resistance, food-contact safe in white. Not UV-stable for long outdoor use — pick ASA for that.
Typical use cases
- →Brackets, mounts, and clamps that have to flex without snapping (PETG bends, PLA breaks).
- →Kitchen and bathroom items — funnels, soap holders, jar lids — that get repeated water contact.
- →Replacement parts for appliances and tools where ABS originals have cracked from age or heat.
- →Tool holders, drill holders, pegboard hooks and shop organizers carrying real weight.
- →Outdoor-adjacent containers (sheds, garages) where occasional UV and humidity would warp PLA.
- →Cable strain reliefs, grommets and bushings that need a tougher, slightly flexible plastic.
- →Custom enclosures for electronics with screw-bosses that have to survive being driven repeatedly.

PETG HF questions answered
Why pick PETG HF over standard PLA for functional parts?+
PETG HF has roughly twice the impact resistance of PLA and stays usable at temperatures around 70–75°C, where PLA already starts to soften (~55–60°C). For anything that bears load, gets gripped, screwed, dropped, or sits in a hot car, PETG HF is a noticeably more durable choice. PLA is still the right pick for purely decorative items.
Is PETG HF safe for kitchen items and food contact?+
PETG itself is the same family of polymer used in food and beverage bottles, and our PETG HF (high-flow) filament is uncoloured-friendly for short-term food contact items like funnels, scoops, and cookie cutters. We always recommend hand-washing rather than dishwasher cycles, and printing food-contact items in food-safe colours (we will advise per project).
How long do PETG HF replacement parts typically last?+
For non-UV-exposed indoor parts (bracket inside a cupboard, a kitchen tool, an enclosure) we routinely see PETG prints outlast the original injection-moulded ABS or PP part — multiple years of normal use is realistic. For outdoor or sun-exposed brackets we recommend ASA instead, which we cover on our ASA outdoor parts page.
Can you print my own STL or 3MF in PETG HF?+
Yes — upload your file on the quote page, pick PETG HF White, and you will see a real OrcaSlicer-based price in about 30 seconds. We can also adjust wall count and infill on functional parts so the result is genuinely strong, not just visually filled.
